Carry my casket - m4w

I have come to a realization that I don't have many friends. That means when I die I won't have enough people to carry my casket. I believe the minimum number of pallbearers is six. I've also got a very small family, so they won’t do. I can't do any exact math on the numbers of available people because by the time I die I won't be sure which of those people will still be around or if we all died together in some horrific accident. If I make a rough estimate I'd say roughly there would be 5 reliable people, friends and family included. As you can see I'm short one. So I am here on craigslist in search of a new friend. So why a female friend? I just thought I'd even it out a bit since most of the other pallbearers will be male. In all honestly I don’t want my funeral to be a sausage fest because then some of the other pallbearers might not show. With some female incentive it will ensure that they come through for me.

Now I realize this is going to be very competitive, I mean who wouldn’t want to carry my casket? So below is more details on how to apply.

Now in order to my friend you'll have to meet the following conditions and requirements:
-Must make an appearance at my funeral to carry my casket
-Must be able to lift 1/6th of the weight of my body inside a casket
-Being my friend is only secondary to your role as my pallbearer, in the case that I start to actually like you as a friend, that role may be switched to a secondary priority.
-This will be STRICTLY friendship. You must not fall in love with me. I don't need a coffin straddler at my funeral because it will make the casket that much heavier to carry. Besides it's not proper custom the spouse to be a pallbearer anyway
-In the case that you die before I do I will be your pallbearer
-In the case I changed my mind and decide to be cremated then you are hereby relieved of your duty as pallbearer

The interview process may subject you to tests such as heavy lifting, ability to cry, and proper funeral dress. Training will be provided for all successful applicants in proper lifting technique, crying when you really don't care, and how to dress for a funeral.

I thank all applicants for applying but only those that I am interested in will be contacted for an interview.

In case you're wondering, I'm not dieing. Therefore until the day I do maybe we can be friends? So please would somebody commit to this task? I could die any day now…please hurry.
...they do! Nancy Pelosi has just announced that she will introduce legislation tomorrow to tax the AIG bonuses at 90%. This is being done, of course, "to strengthen our economy and create jobs." The tax will be highly selective:

The bill would apply a separate income tax rate of 90 percent to bonuses received by individuals from companies which have received at least $5 billion from TARP. It would also apply to bonuses paid by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

For this purpose, bonuses will be defined as any retention payment, incentive payment, or other bonus which is in addition to regular employee compensation payable on a periodic basis.

The special tax rate only would apply to individuals and families with overall income (including income other than bonuses) in excess of $250,000.

The good news there, I guess, is that the new tax covers Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac. That shows it's bipartisan, right? Because it would apply to the more than $50 million in bonuses that Fannie Mae paid to Obama adviser Franklin Raines, right? Not quite:

The bill applies to payments received after December 31, 2008.

So much for Fannie and Freddy. I'm guessing the only company that fits the statute's description is AIG. It's pathetic, but it shows how desperate the Democrats are getting, no doubt in part because they've seen these numbers.

Obama Continues Bush-Era Extremism on Liberties, Secrecy

Sent to you by John via Google Reader:

via Boing Boing by Dan Gillmor on 3/15/09

Dan Gillmor is a BoingBoing guest-blogger.

secret dg15.jpgThe Obama administration has undone a few of the Bush administration's worst policies, true. Yet when it comes to Obama's increasingly clear disdain for some core civil liberties and his administration's penchant for secrecy despite cheerful rhetoric to the contrary, Salon's Glenn Greenwald arrives at a dismal -- but sadly, logical -- conclusion:

After many years of anger and complaint and outrage directed at the Bush administration for its civil liberties assaults and executive power abuses, the last thing most people want to do is conclude that the Obama administration is continuing the core of that extremism. That was why the flurry of executive orders in the first week produced such praise: those who are devoted to civil liberties were, from the start, eager to believe that things would be different, and most want to do everything but conclude that the only improvements that will be made by Obama will be cosmetic ones.

But it's becoming increasingly difficult for honest commentators to do anything else but conclude that. After all, these are the exact policies which, when embraced by Bush, produced such intense protest over the last eight years. Nobody is complaining because the Obama administration is acting too slowly in renouncing these policies. The opposite is true: they are rushing to actively embrace them. And while there are still opportunities to meaningfully depart from the extremism of the last eight years, the evidence appears more and more compelling that, at least in these areas, there is little or no real intent on the part of the Obama administration to do so.

Democrats in Congress and much of the political left have been silent or nearly so despite the evidence. You expect cowardice from Congress, which spent the Bush presidency in a perpetual bent-over posture. The Netroots folks who did so much to elect Obama should be screaming bloody murder by now. Too few are even slightly audible. A shame.

Maybe the Republicans will re-discover civil liberties at some point. Nah.

Halo Kitty Action Figure Can Be Yours for $50 [Things You Can't Unsee]

via Kotaku by Owen Good on 3/15/09

Hey, you got your Hello Kitty in my Master Chief! You got your Master Chief in my Hello Kitty! Two great tastes that ... eh ... perhaps not.

Yessir, that's a custom pink Master Chief with Hello Kitty tattooed/embossed on his ass, kneepads, "HK47" rifle and shield. In other words, it looks like the kind of eye-gouging abomination that only an eight-year-old kid sister could create out of her big brother's action figure collection. And then some. You can Buy it Now! for $49.99 on eBay.

The action figure is deliberately gender ambiguous, according to the seller (who also advises: "Please be aware that with all paints there is always a chance of wear and tear (especially in the jointed areas of an action figure, so please remember to be careful!)"). Holy shit, I just went punctuation, close parenthesis, quote mark, close parenthesis and punctuation and it was correct.

Check out that Emma Frost Hellfire Club fireplace behind Chief. Unfortunately, you don't get it with your 50 bones.

Intimidate Neighbors And Cook Their Food With Uber Manly Imperial Grill XL [...

It's a balmy 58 degrees in Boston today, and spring is just around the corner. Time to talk grills. What better place to start than the Imperial Grill, which is held together by pure testosterone?

Housed within this stainless steel propane-devouring beast are two separate ovens and two cooking surfaces that erupt with up to 60,000 BTUs. The looks are pretty pedestrian (where is Leonidas, screaming with fury on the facade?), but the sound of all those burners charring the food inside will probably make up for that minor quibble. Hope your neighbors like a little side of "wet their pants" with their steak.

The rig costs $1,800, which is also the amount of money you'll need to keep this thing running all the way through spring and summer. Keep an extra propane tank or ten handy. [Born Rich]

Pelosi claims she's not partisan?

From Fox News:

Pelosi Denies She's Partisan, Accuses GOP of 'Process' Politics

For anyone who is making House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., out to be the leading purveyor of partisan politics, she has a bone to pick.

"There seems to be a market for saying that I am very partisan, and that I don't give the Republicans their opportunity. That simply is not true," Pelosi said in an interview with PBS' Charlie Rose. "They know in this recovery package that we had, we ask them what they wanted."

Read it here.

And in other news, members of Congress sidled away from the House speaker as they anticipated she was soon to be struck by lightning for fibbing about not being a partisan.

Inayat Bunglawala of the Muslim Council of Britain, who worked at the same Reuters News Canary Wharf office from which we received a death threat in 2006, has been arrested in connection with a stabbing at his home.

A Muslim who advised the Government following the July 7 London bombings has been arrested after an alleged stabbing.

Inayat Bunglawala, 39, was held on suspicion of attacking another man at his £300,000 home.

Mr Bunglawala, who also briefed former Security Minister Tony McNulty on the threat posed by Islamic radicals in the UK, was arrested two weeks before Christmas last year.

The identity of the alleged victim is unknown and it is not clear what circumstances led to the alleged attack in the early hours of December 13 last year.
