Obama administration speaks with forked tongue

Power Line

The anti-Obama ads for the 2012 campaign are beginning to write themselves. During the debate over Obamacare, the president insisted that the requirement to purchase health insurance, and the imposition of a penalty for not purchasing it, does not constitute a tax. Here he is doing so (see around 3:20 and 4:00) and, when challenged, suggesting that it's somehow unfair to apply the dictionary definition of "tax" (see around 5:00)!:

But now, in response to a lawsuit by various state attorneys general challenging the constitutionality of Obamacare, the Obama Justice Department has described the penalty on those who don't purchase health insurance as a tax. It employs that description to support the government's contention that it has the right to impose the penalty as part of its power to tax.

In this case, the power to tax is the power to destroy whatever may be left of Obama's credibility.

“Kill Switch” Would Give Obama Power To Turn Off The Internet

obama1Why doe it seem like it's always Joe Lieberman who thinks of these great ideas? From the Sydney Morning Herald:

US President Barack Obama would be granted powers to seize control of and even shut down the internet under a new bill that describes the global internet as a US "national asset."

The proposed legislation, introduced into the US Senate by independent senator Joe Lieberman, who is chairman of the US Homeland Security committee, seeks to grant the President broad emergency powers over the internet in times of national emergency.

Titled "Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act," the bill stipulates any internet firms and providers must "immediately comply with any emergency measure or action developed" by a new section of the US Department of Homeland Security, dubbed the "National Centre for Cybersecurity and Communications."

Lobby group TechAmerica told ZDNet it worried that the bill would give the US "absolute power" over the internet and create "unintended consequences."

CNN poll shows disapproval over Obama handling of Gulf spill increasing

Hot Air » Top Picks

A new CNN poll taken a day after Barack Obama's Oval Office speech delivered more bad news to the White House.  The poll shows 59% disapproval over Obama's handling of the crisis in the Gulf of Mexico, an increase of eight points since May 21-23 survey.  Approval has dropped from 46% to 41%, making an 13-point shift in approval in three weeks.  The result shows that Obama's speech failed to repair his damaged position and build his credibility on his competence. White House-BP Party Looks Like So Much Fun

Wonkette

A very merry Un-birthday, to you ....
Here's Barack Obama and Tony Hayward and the rest of the sad BP people and bitter White House people sitting around sipping glasses of lukewarm vinegar 'n tears, earlier today. People are usually really excited to go to the White House, even if they hate the president or whatever, but we're pretty sure all these people just went back to their hotel and emptied the mini-bar and passed out on the floor, weeping. Oh, did you want more super-fun party pix?

Here. Here you go:
'My people believe that the White Lodge is a place where the spirits that rule man and nature here reside.'
Locked in the terrifying White Chamber — no windows, and no doors! — with an emotionless, ice-blooded Obama. That was the fate of BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg today. It was hard to tell if he'd been crying or if he's just got a terrible accent, when he was whimpering that latest apology to America today. No way to confirm that Rahm Emanuel stomped on his nuts for two hours, while wearing golf cleats, or that Svanberg hobbled out wearing an inch-thick diaper of Saran Wrap under his pants.
